More than eighty million documents have to be stored, with up to twelve million additional documents arriving each year. At the same time, all this informa- tion needs to be readily accessible by staff. The tax department decided to put its project to introduce an electronic document management and archiving system out to public tender. All documents produced via the \u2018NEST\u2019 and \u2018GemDat\u2019 applications were to be managed in a centralized solu- tion and the former paper-based archive digitalized in order to save space.
